Described as “a traveling concert circus of sorts” by The New York Times, the annual WYOmericana Caravan Tour is a rolling representation of Wyoming’s burgeoning songwriter scene. 2017 will mark the 5th Anniversary of the tour, which features multiple acts “caravanning” down the road together. The artists perform individual sets—with the suspense of ad-libbed cross-band collaborations—followed by an extended encore that includes all members of the tour on stage simultaneously, taking chances, and blending talents. The camaraderie that grows between the musicians is harvested through stage moments and roadside attractions in the open West.
Founded and produced by Seadar Rose and Aaron Davis of Jackson Hole band Screen Door Porch, the tour winds through The Rockies each May & June. The idea is to propel Wyoming’s music scene as an artist collective, exhibiting to the world that there’s a creative spark in the USA’s least populated state. The most honest way to do that is simple—put a dozen of the state’s best musicians on the road and take the show not only to the wonderful people of Wyoming, but to Idaho, Montana, Utah, Colorado, South Dakota, and beyond. The WYOmericana Caravan has been an evolution since the first 18-show run in 2013. It drew the attention of The New York Times, which hired a freelance writer to travel to multiple Caravan concerts. A full-page Sunday article titled “Touring, the ‘Wyoming Way’” was the strike of lightening they needed.
From acoustic to electric music, the melting pot of “WYOmericana” acts are influenced by a number of Americana past times from rock ’n’ roll and bluegrass to blues, country, singer-songwriter, soul, folk, jazz, country-blues and beyond. Past tours have featured Jalan Crossland, Screen Door Porch, The Patti Fiasco, J Shogren Shanghai’d, Canyon Kids, Sneaky Pete & the Secret Weapons, and The Littlest Birds.
In 2014, the film WYOMERICANA debuted on the big screen at the Cheyenne International Film Festival and then took home 1st place at the Laramie Film Festival. Filmed during the first annual tour, the rock-u-mentary captures behind the scenes footage of the bands on the road, interviews with the musicians, hilarious banter, and the on-stage moments that make this a one-of-a-kind traveling show. The short version of WYOMERICANA is viewable on YouTube.
The WYOmericana Caravan was named Top Arts/Entertainment Event of 2013 by Wyoming’s largest print newspaper, Casper Star-Tribune, and has received a tremendous amount of cognitive support from the broader Wyoming community including Wyoming Public Radio, Wyoming Arts Council and over 20 past sponsors.
